The global nursing shortage means that recruitment and retention of nurses is getting questionnable and perhaps overly creative. When a newspaper reports on free plastic surgery offers as recruiting tools by hospitals strapped for nurses, a nurses union president lambasts the coverage. In a blog, a medical reporter rebuts the "shoot the messenger" criticism.

MyOpIA

If there is a shortage, then address the reasons why. Pay them, stop treating them like trash, and recognize what they do. They provide the direct patient care (their license demands the patient not the profit comes first), while saving the physician's licensure (catching and correcting the errors made by those never trained to care for patients) and the hospital's credibility (by resolving any issues that come up in a professional and open manner with the patients instead of covering it up like admin and legal).

I'm not one of them, but it doesn't prevent me from seeing the obvious.
